From January 2nd to 13th, 21 members of the Senior National Elite group flew to Cancun for a preparation camp for the Winter National Championships. They were accompanied by head coach Martin Gingras, Senior Coach Philip Garverick and athletic therapist Arielle Rousseau. The camp was held at the beautiful swimming pool of the Collegio Boston private school in Cancun. The athletes trained 17 times in the pool and once at sea. They swam more than 110 km in the 50m pool and did more than 20 hours of dryland training outside of the pool. According to Charles Millette, winner of the 2018 Victor Davis Award and one of the most experienced senior swimmers, the camp was one of the hardest of his life!
The goals set by the coaches were to improve the aerobic base of the athletes and to have a total focus on: the implementation of the recovery process, the increase of the level of fitness, and the refinement of the techniques of swimming and learn to excel despite fatigue
According to head coach Martin Gingras, the 2019 camp fulfilled all its objectives. The next step for the senior athletes of Pointe-Claire Swim Club is to qualify for the World Championships in South Korea, the Pam Am Championship in LIMA in Peru, the FISU games in Italy and the Junior World Swimming Championships in Hungary.
